OUR VETS -
Dr. Jan Batker, DVM
A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Jan Batker has resided in North Carolina
since 1978. She earned her BS in Animal Science from Penn State in 1976,
where she was a member of the Intercollegiate Equestrian team. She worked
in the Standardbred Racehorse Industry at Racetracks in the Northeast
and in Pinehurst for 2 years before becoming a research associate at Duke
University.
She graduated in 1985 with the first class admitted to the North Carolina
State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she was inducted
in Phi Zeta, the Honor Society of Veterinary Medicine, and received the
Iams Speaking Award. In 1986 Dr. Jan completed an Internship in Small
Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Georgia. She entered
private practice the following year.
A staff veterinarian at Lillington Veterinary Hospital since 1996,
Dr. Jan became Hospital Director in January of 2000. She is a member
of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the North Carolina
Veterinary Medical Association (NCVMA), the American Veterinary Dental
Association, the American Association of Feline Practitioners, and the
Heartworm Society. She is currently serving on the County Animal Emergency
Response Team, The Dangerous Dog Committee of Harnett County and is a
past secretary for the Alumni Society of the Veterinary School and past
Publications Chair for the NCVMA. She has two children, two dogs and
two cats at the current time. She teaches Sunday School to children,
and often volunteers to present talks related to the veterinary profession
to young people.
Dr. Amy Allen-Graves, DVM
A Harnett County native and a graduate of Western
Harnett High School, she received her undergraduate degree in Animal
Science from NC State, where she was active in the Pre-Veterinary and
Animal Science Clubs. She earned her D.V.M. from NCSU, graduating from
veterinary school in 1997. While in Veterinary school she was a member
of the student American Animal Hospital Association, and the Student
Chapters of the AVMA and Association of Bovine Practitioners. She has
been a staff veterinarian at Lillington Veterinary Hospital since 1998,
having previously practiced in Rockingham, but has been an employee
of Lillington Veterinary Hospital since her college days.
She is married, has a son and a daughter, and her hobbies are church softball and walking
(she enjoys exercising her dogs at Raven Rock State Park), although
scrap booking has consumed a lot of her time lately. She is a member
of the Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers and her professional affiliations
are with the AVMA and NCVMA.
Dr. Morgan Plemmons
Dr. Morgan Plemmons began working at LVH in June 2008. She graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008 and received her undergraduate degree at NCSU in animal science. Dr. Plemmons has special interests in dermatology, surgery, and reproduction, although she loves all aspects of veterinary medicine. She is a member of Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church where she is active in both the Praise Choir and the Alleluia Ringers. Her hobbies include cooking, reading, camping, and running. She is married to Hunter and they have two pugs, Brutus and Sparticus, and one cat, Gertie.

Donations
Lillington Veterinary Hospital customarily makes annual charitable donations to honor the memory of the patients we have lost during the past year. This year we sent the majority of our allocation ($750.00) to the Red Cross on behalf of the Haiti relief effort; we dispersed the remainder ($250.00) to the Jane Goodall Institute and to the College of Veterinary Medicine at the North Carolina State University for use toward the completion of the new small animal hospital. We believe that these organizations are committed to serving our fellow men and their companions and will be wise stewards of our money.
